Our featured destination this month.
For most people, Miami is the perfect warm-weather destination to escape their everyday life. With so many places to go, sites to see, and food to eat, it may seem hard to imagine ever wanting to leave Miami. But for a select few, Miami is simply the gateway to the entire rest of the world, a pitstop to their next destination.
Whether you’re in Miami just a few hours before taking an international flight overseas, or a few days awaiting a cruise to a tropical destination of your choosing, Miami acts as a central hub that can make all your travel dreams come true.
If you’re looking for a unique way to spend an afternoon on the water, there’s no better option than booking a river cruise or boat ride along the Miami Canal. At just over 70 miles in length, there’s almost no limit to the number of sights and sounds you’ll experience along the way.
These chartered boat rides are relatively inexpensive and can even give you some insight into the lifestyles of the rich and famous. One of the biggest perks about taking a boat along the canal is to experience the over the top and outlandish mega-mansions lining the waterfront on Millionaire’s Row. Who knows who you might see enjoying drinks on the dock or retrieving their morning paper, as you float on by.
As part of any good vacation, it’s crucial to find time to relax and what better place to accomplish this than at South Beach. South Beach has a vibrant history of being a hub of nightlife and all things youthful and trendy. But it’s also the best place to relax with a drink in your hand and soak in some rays.
Once you’ve found your beachy seat for the day, you can easily take in all that South Beach has to offer. Just from your spot on the beach, you can observe the architecture of the Miami skyline or watch as cruise ships set sail and depart from the nearby pier. And when you’ve had enough of tranquil relaxation, you can always hit up the various entertainment venues and nightclubs located within walking distance.
Not far from downtown Miami, Little Havana is a prime example of how Cuban culture has left its mark on the city. Many believe that this Cuban influence is thanks to the rise of Fidel Castro in the late 1950s, which forced many Cubans to flee their country, taking up root in Miami. But without this mass exodus, places like Little Havana might not be the nightlife locale it is today.
Flooding the streets of Miami, you’ll find mom and pop shops selling authentic Cuban souvenirs and other goods, as well as family-owned restaurants that are serving up authentic Cuban dishes that will make your mouth water.
Just a short drive from the hub of Miami is Everglades National Park, deemed the third-largest national park in the United States. With all its vast swamps and wetlands, there’s so much to see and explore both on a boat and on foot. While you may not see it all in a day, the Everglades is the perfect place for a day trip.
During your trip, you can get a quick overview of the history of the Glades at the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center, or hike one of the many pre-paved trails in hopes of spotting an American Alligator in its natural habitat. Or if you’re looking for the perfect, birds-eye view of the park as a whole, you can make your way to the Pa-Hay-Okee Lookout Tower.
While Miami can provide visitors with a sense of living in a coastal town rich in culture and entertainment, there’s a whole new experience awaiting you at the Florida Keys. This grouping of islands makes for the perfect place to escape Miami, if only for the day. The three major keys: Key Largo, Islamorada, and Key West each offer their own unique adventures that can make for either a relaxed or jammed-packed experience.
Looking to charter a boat and enjoy a day on the water? You can spend your afternoon casting a line while fishing or exploring the colorful corals, or simply explore the infamous shipwreck at the bottom of the ocean. Land lovers can also enjoy visiting the local art galleries, tiny shops, or the countless dining experiences the islands have to offer.
